U
ultraviolet (UV) [ul tra vy o let]
The wave length shorter than visible light near the violet end of the rainbow spectrum.
ultraviolet radiation [ul tra vy o let * ray dee a shun]
Radiation or energy waves that have a wave length shorter than visible light.
unsaturated fat [un sat shu rated * fat]
A fat from plant and fish sources that is liquid at room temperature. They include both polyunsaturted and monounsaturated fats. Use of unsaturated fats in the diet may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
UVA =ultraviolet radiation A
UVB =ultraviolet radiation B
UVA and UVB are forms of light energy or radiation that comes from the sun. Both of them are harmful to living organisms because they can damage DNA. UVA and UVB can cause skin cancer in humans, that is why you should always use sun screen with an SPF of 15 or more. UVA also causes skin to wrinkle and age. Tanning booths use UVA to make skin tan, so they are just as dangerous as tanning outside. Be smart, protect your skin!
UV Intensity Meter [in ten city me ter]
A measuring device that is able to express the strength of ultraviolet radiation. Note: Ultraviolet radiation has a wavelength that is shorter than the visible spectrum.
